about the WORK

THIS new collection of paintings emerged as the first of two related SOLO exhibitions, 'TAKE MORE CAKE / promise and permissions', and offers up the power and PLAY of 4-letter words -- FROM 'bad' words to 'GOOD' words the phenom of knuckle tattoos.

following the thread of a dream years ago, and indulging in my LOVE of WORD games, i initially chose two 4-letter words per canvas and combined THEM as a phrase of encouragement. i am purposefully juxtaposing the boundary of the 4-letter words -- and using EACH WORD JUST one TIME in THIS first series of 13 canvases (except for LOVE bc LOVE) -- WITH the fresh unpredictability of unstretched canvas and a loose painting style.

i subsequently continued painting on paper and am expanding the 4-letter WORD RULE combinations on BOTH canvas and paper for the NEXT SOLO exhibition opening december 6, 2019 at pushdot studio.
